UNICEF surveys showed that the population of out of school children showed that Nigeria is about 20 million children are out of school in Nigeria. However an estimated 258 million children and youth are out of school, according to UIS data for the school year, out of the 244 million children are 6 to 18, not in school, more than 40% or 98 million of them live in Sub-saharan Africa including Nigeria. According to the statistics India, Nigeria, and Pakistan have the highest figures for out of school children globally. But the insecurity, kidnapping of school children most parents are not disposed to sending their children to school. Many children may remain out of school as no fewer that 650 schools have remained shut in some troubled states to attacks by terrorists in different parts of the country. Many northern states have come under attack by terrorists with many people, including children, killed and several others kidnapped. The most hit states are Kaduna, Zamfara Katsina, Niger and Taraba states have not been spared by the attackers. UNICEF said thousands in the region has been killed, married, abducted, display and experienced multiples violation of their human rights.

Poor access to education is one of the causes of poverty in Nigeria, that affects education especially girls, financial burdens by marrying their daughter off, lack of education contributes to a perpetual cycle of poverty.

Gender based violence has become rampant across the globe, so many women have become victims of sexual violence, physical violence, sexual harassment, psychological violence, forced abortion in their lifetime.

A better educational system will lift millions of out of school children. Education should be prority to million of out of school children in crisis according to UNESCO stated that education gives children a ladder out of poverty to a promising future.
